As a producer, Cumbee has worked with major Western artists including Olivia Rodrigo, Chris Brown, Madonna and Kygo, along with stars of K-pop such as Girls’ Generation, aespa, IVE and NU’EST. In 2017, he began building upon these impressive foundations with a second career as a singer, appearing as guest vocalist on Armin van Buuren’s ‘Sunny Days’, before going solo in 2020 with the first of a non-stop string of releases.
The album title ‘TRUSTFALL’ is a term coined by Cumbee himself, meaning “to place your trust in someone and fall behind them to have their back”.
The previously unreleased lead track ‘What’s Wrong With Us’ is a duet with the iconic Estonian singer KERLI, in which the pair sing of the kinds of problems familiar to anyone who has ever struggled in a relationship. This minimalist song incorporates elements of electronic, dance and alternative pop music, and was written in Oslo by Cumbee with Mari Halse and Eurovision contender JOWST.
A music video for the track was also released.
In the music video, a man and a woman ride their bikes through the streets of Tokyo in the middle of the night. Strangers, their paths cross but they never truly meet, and yet it feels as though they have opened their hearts to one another somehow along the way. However, the moment comes when they must each take a different fork in the road – the video linking in an ephemeral way to the meaning behind the song.

A separate music video for Cumbee’s hit October single ‘Do Better (feat. Caroline Kole)’ – a collaboration with American pop-rock singer Caroline Kole – is also out now.
The video features Noah Erb, a contestant from the hit American series ‘The Bachelorette’, alongside his ‘The Bachelor’ counterpart Abigail Heringer. Their performance together perfectly complements the song’s lyrics about a near-miss in love.

Including the two above tracks, the album features 11 original songs, plus four remixes by world-class DJs such as Fedde Le Grand and Zonderling, and a duet with Japanese singer-songwriter Vicke Blanka titled ‘Sound Of Your Name (with Vicke Blanka)’, for an album packed with a total of 16 songs.

Comment from Josh Cumbee
“‘TRUSTFALL’ is so many things. It’s a true story of heartbreak, struggle, and ultimately quasi-redemption. It’s a wild journey spanning influences from so many genres and eras of music, yet with a congruous line of thought and intention lyrically woven into every song. It’s my love letter to pop music, and my journal set to melody and laid bare for all y’all to read. I’m not sure how else to describe it… Guess you’ll just have to listen and find out.”
Josh Cumbee profile
Singer/songwriter/producer Josh Cumbee was born in California (with roots in Georgia and Alabama) and raised on John Mayer, Coldplay and U2. It all started when Cumbee enrolled in the music business program at University of Southern California. A career on the creative side of music seemed all but impossible up until landing his first TV placement as a composer, and shortly after he was taken under the wing of songwriting legend Toby Gad, who mentored Cumbee and began collaborating with him on projects.
As a songwriter and producer, Cumbee’s credits list includes names such as Adam Lambert, Kygo, Chris Brown, Olivia Rodrigo, Mat Kearney, Lindsey Stirling, Take That, Janet Jackson and many more.
In addition to multiple international Gold and Platinum record award recognitions for his work, Cumbee’s accolades include Grammy and Latin Grammy nominations (Best Reggae Album for Sean Paul and Album of the Year for Natalia Jiménez), No.1 songs in South Korea, China, the Netherlands and Italy, a World Dance Music Radio Award nomination as an artist alongside the legendary Armin Van Buuren, and recognition from key industry societies such as BUMA NL.
Cumbee’s success in Asia as a writer/producer has been astronomical. With multiple No.1 songs in South Korea and China under his belt, he has collaborated with K-Pop superstars BoA, NCT, Hyoyeon, and Yuri and Taeyeon from Girls’ Generation (with a No.1 hit), along with C-Pop icons Chris Lee, Roy Wang and Cai Xukun. These collaborations stack up to tens of millions of album sales and stream-sale equivalents worldwide.
As an artist and performer, Cumbee’s debut song ‘Sunny Days’, a collaboration with electronic-music megastar Armin van Buuren, went to No.1 on radio in the Netherlands, charted in dozens of countries and has amassed over 150 million streams worldwide.
Van Buuren invited Cumbee to tour with him, culminating in a performance for over 70,000 fans at Untold Festival in Romania. Cumbee has performed on TV for an audience of over 1 million on Holland’s ‘RTL Late Night’, as well as a performance for millions of viewers in North America when he sang the national anthem live for the LA Dodgers – not once but twice.
Since then, Cumbee has further collaborated with other dance music artists such as Fedde Le Grand, Zonderling, and Lucas & Steve, while his solo album and artist project began its rollout under the wings of Japanese record label and media giant AVEX Music.
